Avalon has two locations to provide different immersive experiences to accommodate the needs of our guests.
Avalon itself is an off-grid conscious community space in the valley for a deep dive into living with and in nature.
Ponte Terrestre is our retreat and B&B space, which offers more comfort and a softer transition to natural life.

'Avalon' off-grid eco community
Have you always wanted to know what it's like to live so close to nature that you become part of it again?

Avalon brings you back to your roots, to your own nature, and the beauty of this Earth that you are part of. The close connection with the elements grounds and heals profoundly. Spending time at Avalon is like pushing the reset button on your nervous system and boosting the memory of your body to align itself with the circadian rhythm of the seasons. It helps you come back to stillness and oneness. To destress and take time away from the chaos of everyday working life in our modern society.​
​At the same time, it offers a chance to taste community life; Conscious and open communication, conflict resolution, genuine interest, and holding space for each other bring harmony to any environment where people live and work together. At Avalon, we create the space to learn and practice these skills in a safe and inviting setting. You are welcome just as you are!
The most optimal time to visit Avalon depends on your wishes. The summers (usually June - September) can be very hot during the day up to 45°C, but mostly it cools down in our valley to very comfortable sleeping temperatures around 15°C. In winter (December - February), the nights can be very cold (up to -12°C), but during the days it can be comfortable and sunny, around 20°C. Outside of these months, temperatures can vary, but evenings are always cooler than the days.

Below are our different accommodations. The bell tent will be up from May to October. The caravan and sleeping van will be available all year round for the adventurers who like to live with nature! If you like more comfort, you can also consider booking a room at our second location: Ponte Terrestre (scroll down).

Cute caravan in the communal area with double bed and sitting space. Since this caravan is quite cosy, it's comfortable for people no taller than 170 cm to stand and sleep comfortably.
Price: €65,- per night

Our more private accommodation is slightly away from the communal area, giving more privacy and peace. There are two single beds in the tent that can also be put together for a couple.

One of the most amazing places on the land is our river, where we swim, bathe in the summer, and have our 'fishwasher', our off-grid dishwasher in co-creation with the fish who live there 😄. For the colder months, we have a warm solar-powered shower, a compost toilet, and an outside kitchen, and we are currently turning one of the most iconic buildings on the land, the Super Adobe, built out of sandbags, into an indoor kitchen and community space.
At Avalon, we strive to grow our own food. Currently, we have a food forest with over 25 kinds of fruit and nut trees and bushes, and many more supporting trees, all returning the love and energy we put into it at different times of the year! Avalon is surrounded by nature. The closest village, Sobrainho da Ribeira, where we have our second location, 'Ponte Terreste', is a beautiful scenic 20-minute walk or a 5-minute car ride.

Avalon is the home of Core community members Adam and Dana, 4 cats, 9 chickens, and a great variety of local wildlife ranging from otters to turtles and deer.
​
We also offer a variety of extra on-site modalities like Thai Massage, Soundbaths, and Energy Healing, Spiritual (1-on-1 or Relationship) Coaching Sessions, Tantra Massage and Tantra Education, Permaculture walks, and more!​​
'Ponte Terrestre' retreat and b&b
From September 2025, we are happy to welcome retreat guests at our B&B 'Ponte Terrestre' in the picturesque village of Sobrainho da Ribeira (which translates to 'nephew of the river').
Ponte Terrestre means 'land bridge'. Literally, a land bridge is a "connection between two land masses, especially a prehistoric one that allowed humans and animals to colonize new territory before being cut off by the sea." Ponte Terrestre is a bridge between lives—the old and the new, the established and the possible, the known and the adventure to be explored.
Our 'land bridge' connects visitors of different continents, countries, and lifestyles to our beautiful off-grid community, Avalon.
Where Avalon offers a deep dive into off-grid community living, Ponte Terrestre provides a softer landing into a different way of being, offering more comfort being on the grid and slightly less radical, yet providing just as magical a taste of the beautiful nature of Central Portugal.

Ponte Terrestre is available to rent as a private B&B, as well as being a space to host our retreat guests.

Ponte Terrestre boasts a fully equipped kitchen, a spacious living room, and a bathroom with a shower. But one of the most amazing features about the house is the big terrace with a dazzling view over the hills of the surrounding area. On the terraces above and below the house are over 15 different kinds of mature fruit and nut-bearing trees, and plenty of space to sit and enjoy the land.
Prices are based on renting the whole house for a minimum of two nights. When participants of events want to extend their stay after or before an event, we work on the principle of first-come, first-served, but of course, when people meet at events and want to share the costs, we are happy to arrange this.

On any normal day, the environment is super calm and quiet. Only when there are special occasions like village festivities, there might be more hustle and bustle. We therefore ask our guests to keep the peace after 22:00 so as not to disturb the neighbors.
​
When you rent a specific room, you are welcome to use that room for sleeping and the communal areas for your stay. Since we don't like locking doors, we kindly ask you not to use the bedrooms you have not booked to prevent extra cleaning.​
